I\u2019ve been shaping gold and silver for 27 years. For the first time, I deliberately \u201cBROKE\u201d it.<\/p>\n
This pair of rings was inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi: Broken pieces aren\u2019t hidden away; they\u2019re repaired with gold, and that scar makes the object even more valuable.<\/p>\n
I left the 925 sterling silver with a hand-textured finish. Then I wrapped 24-karat pure gold along the cracks. Each gold line is a repair.<\/p>\n
I set black and white diamonds on them.<\/p>\n
Though the two rings appear to stand apart, when joined they form a single shape\u2014just as two lovers who love each other complete one another.<\/p>\n
This is a first for me. I avoided a perfect polish. I wanted to reveal the mark.<\/p>\n
