Custom-Designed Inca Cross Necklace,
This Cross Was Made to Measure Time.
“When the Southern Cross stood upright in May, it was time to plant. The Chakana served as a calendar for the Incas.”
However, we will focus on another feature of this precious cross of the Inca civilization.
Chakana, the Andean Cross, the Inca Cross.
In Quechua, the word “Chakana” comes from the roots “chaka” (bridge) and “hanan” (beyond/above). Thus, the literal meaning is “bridge to the beyond.”
“That which serves as a bridge to the beyond.”
The cross represents three worlds: the Upper World, the Middle World, and the Lower World.
1. CONDOR/Hanan Pacha:
The sky, the realm of the gods. It represents the Upper World.
The condor is the messenger between the earth and the gods.
2. PUMA/Kay Pacha:
The world of “now.” It represents the Middle World.
The Andean puma symbolizes strength, courage, and balance.
3. SNAKE (AMARU)/Uku Pacha:
The realm of the dead and the unborn. It represents the Underworld.
The snake (often referred to in texts as the giant snake Amaru) symbolizes transformation, wisdom, and healing.
The person wearing the Chakana carried the bridge connecting the three worlds.
“A person will look upward like a condor, stand strong on the ground like a puma, and know their inner self like a serpent. When these three are in balance, time flows correctly.”
